We’ve all seen our share of mediocre videos, DVDs and CDs. There are many variables that contribute to the success or failure of a product. For instance, if you deliver your most dynamic performance on-stage in front of an audience, don’t shoot your video in a studio. Or, if you are going to record an audio CD, don’t schedule a session until you’ve rehearsed enough to deliver a good performance.
These are the kinds of tips that will make you a producer before your time. Some of the information I'll share in future blog posts, adapted from my book "The Art of Production," is straightforward, such as various recording principles, tape formats and design techniques, in addition to sales, marketing and promotion. Other information is subjective. I’ll share my own production styles or techniques that capture my “essence.” If they work for you, cool. If not, you use the information as a creative springboard to develop your own “essence.”
Maybe your goal is to produce a marketing video to demonstrate your expertise as a professional speaker, figure skater or model. These types of demo videos used to cost a fortune. Today, if you’re properly prepared and organized before you enter the studio, you can produce it for a fraction of the cost.
The beauty of this industry is that we’re riding on a tidal wave of innovation — new gadgets are coming out every day that allow you to have more creative control and produce hi-tech multimedia better and cheaper than ever before. You’ll learn how to develop your own techniques and incorporate your “essence” into every production. You’ll save money and create better multimedia marketing tools for your business.
